Châtel – the village

Châtel Mairie and church

Just the right size

Châtel has a lovely village feel with picturesque squares and spaces and traditional buildings.

Yet it’s also large enough to have all the facilities you need for an enjoyable stay – both for children and adults.

There are plenty of restaurants, with three featuring in the Michelin guide, and options from pizza to traditional French cooking and local specialities.

Along with the essential bakery, there is a selection of shops including a wonderful toy shop, clothing stores and gift shops.

Lots of leisure options

Leaving aside the amazing opportunities on the slopes and the trails, there is plenty to do for everyone in Châtel.

In the village centre you’ll find the ice-skating rink throughout the winter. Nearby there is the carousel for younger visitors. Or head to the Forme D’O aquatic centre for an indoor and outdoor wellness and pools.

If that’s not enough there’s soft-play, an escape room and the customs museum!

The great outdoors

Surrounded by natural beauty, Châtel offers so many options to be outside.

Lake Vonnes is beautiful at any time of year, and the paths and boardwalk make for a lovely stroll – just a few minutes away from Chalet La Cachette. You’ll find an outdoor playground here too.

There are plenty of marked trails starting from Lake Vonnes to get further in to nature.

Hit the slopes – or the saddle

Of course, the main attraction is the mountains.

As part of the Portes du Soleil, 600km of ski and snowboarding runs are literally on your doorstep. Or in summer, there’s the Châtel Bike Park and plenty of road and gravel bike routes.

The excellent Tourist Office in the village centre is on hand to provide information and guidance, and we always keep updated brochures and booklets in the chalet.
